Thank god it’s not my E39 M5, but still, it’s been an awesome car, and I’ll miss it...

I guess the important question is...why?

Because I’m lucky enough to have all these, and I’m going through a career change right now, so the wife has said one has to go....for our financial security is the best answer. Why the M3? The E39 M5 is my dream car, and the soarer, whilst special, is worthless, and the ISF is the family car, so the M3 loses. I’ve had countless cars, but only a few I get attached to. The M3 is starting to get that feel...
I keep telling myself in a year or 2 I’ll get another one, but it won’t be the same.

Have you listed yet? If so where, if not year/mileage/options?
Judging by your other cars I’m going to go ahead and assume that the M3 has got 3 pedals.
If you’re anywhere along the east coast, I’d love to come and have a look. I’m forever in the market for another E46M3.

Respectfully, I’ve never understood how the spousal “jurisdictional-overreach” in these situations works or is even acknowledged.
Tell Her if you have to sell one of your cars, She has to give-up a Closet.
Ain’t love grand?

Yes but the problem is she is correct. So you end up thinking logically and agree with her. So it becomes almost like inception and you think its your idea even. Unless she has a collection of closets in various houses, idk how that is gonna work very well as a compromise.

It depends on the relationship. I have friends who lost all of their toys the second they got married. My wife isn’t bothered by the cars/motorcycle she doesn’t even play the “you have all of these expensive toys, so we don’t have money for x.” card. The agreement is that as long as were not putting ourselves in a losing financial position, either one buys what they want.
We don’t, however have kids yet. The M3 and the Grom are safe there, but an expensive DD is not. No worries though, I’ve got this grand idea for a little Ford Ranger to DD. That was my idea right?

You’re 100% right. I know Oppos are going to go against your decision, and as they already have, point out that it’s not your wife’s place but you’re doing the right thing. Taking advice from those we trust most is important.
It’s the same reason I walked out without the Camaro SS last night. With the money I’d have spent on that, and dump my current car, I’d be able to own 3 properties within the same 5 years of payments so long as I dump my current car. Sometimes you have to do life instead of fun ;)

I’m sorry to hear that - - but it sounds like a necessary step, and you’ll still have an awesome selection to drive on a daily basis. I second Tripper’s comment requesting details - - except that I’m in the Midwest. Please post additional details when you’re ready. Maybe the car can stay Oppo! Good luck regardless!

As some of the other have said, you often get pulled up by the better half to make a decision on behalf of both of you, rather than one of you. In the last 10 years, I’ve 30 cars or more, with some truly epic machinery in amongst that. The wife has always supported my decisions with cars knowing that: I know how to play the game and not burn money, and that if I have less of cars, her and the children get a lesser version of me. I used to be of the opinion that at least when it came to cars, I would always maintain an independence of choice. The reality is that as a team, weighing the decisions and working towards them together, I’ve owned some cars that I would never have dreamed of. She has given up plenty to see my addiction fed, and I’m stumped someday as to what I give up for her. I’m an extremely blessed person in that sense.

Believe it or not, I actually sought out an SMG. Having spent seat time in E60 M5, I learnt how it works, and more importantly how to get it to work for you. I have the M5 to scratch my manual itch. When used properly and understood, you can easily match revs, and drop/gain multiple gears quickly with a click of those paddles. I found one that had just had the SMG pump replaced, and I got receipts. I bought it with high milage because it had a good service history. I’ll post the link below. Located between Ballarat somedays, and mornington peninsula on others.

There is so much to that car and so much it can do! I have a photo of me with the chief engineer and creator Yukihiko Yaguchi, who i was lucky enough to spend the day with when it was launched. I also have one of the internal project team launch pins too. Not selling that car ever with a bit of luck.

I’ll try off the top of my head, but I may miss a few. I’ll try not to include company cars,as I worked for lexus for 6 years and did the salary sacrifice thing every 3 months, so that sort of blows the number out of proportion. The favorites from that stuff from those were:
2008 Lexus IS250 sport
2005 Lexus Es300
2004 Lexus IS200 Platinum manual
2004 Lexus IS300 Platinum
2008 RX400h
2001 Lexus GS300
The stuff I actually owned (ie paid cash) are below. some I had for more than a year, others I had less than 3 month because I either didn’t like them or on sold them for profit Tarvish style. The one everyone asks most about is the the 34. I had it for 5 months, and got an offer 10k more than I paid for it. They are worth a fortune now, so don’t I look like the idiot...
1979 Chrysler CM valiant
1987 Nissan Skyline Passage GT turbo
1986 Nissan skyline Ti (aus made version)
1987 Nissan Skyline Ti (aus made version)
1989 Ford laser
1992 Toyota Soarer JZZ30 Twin Turbo GTTL Auto
1994 Toyota Soarer UZZ32 Active V8 GTL
1997 Nissan Skyline GTR Vspec Titanium
1997 toyota Soarer GT-T VVTi Manual
1998 Nissan Skyline GTR (one of the last 250 33's made)
1999 Nissan skyline GTR Vspec Midnight purprle II
2001 Toyota soarer JZZ30 GTTL VVTi Auto (sold it before it even landed!!)
2001 BMW M5 (still got it)
2002 BMW M3 SMG(still got it)
2003 Porsche Boxster S Manual
2003 BMW 745i
2005 Lexus GS300 sports Luxury
2009 Lexus ISF
2010 Lexus LX570 Sports Luxury
2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302
I have pictures of most, so if you want to see one, just ask, I’ll see what I can find.

This made me laugh out loud....I remember the times of sr20 and mystical lotus, haha!
One of my best mates, his father had all the dream cars of his youth. Because I’m Australian, he would tell us stories of monaro’s and chargers and falcons, xu1 torana race cars. We would all sit and drink and talk for hours about all the great cars he had. All of my best mates love cars and we all loved to hear these stories. But most have had one or 2. They were smart, and bought things like houses and shares. I worked hard and made good money, and spent almost all of it on cars. I wanted to be like my best friends father, and sit around and tell the great stories he did, and look back and see that I got everything I’d dreamed of driving. I have children and a mortgage now, so I’ve managed to keep a few, but things will changes over the years. The upside is, when I last saw my best friends father, he was reaping the rewards of hard work and raising children. He has grand children, a nice home, and cars galore again....special things like a 996 carrera, 360 modena, a jag xkr, flacon turbo utes... not only is he just a really nice guy, (and his son is one of my best mates since high school is an absolute champion), he gives me hope and shows me that if I work hard, the dream can still be achieved.
I love to talk about them, but I try not to be a dick about them.

I gathered you liked the R33. This is the engine bay of the one I posted, the 97 titanium. I’m trying desperatley to find photos of the 98 33, but I sold it super quick as it was pretty clean, and bone stock. I drove the thing for maybe 2 weeks. Comming back to this one though, this was good for around 250awkw. It was mental. laggy, and revved out to 9 and beyond. Ecu, injectors, FMIC,pod filters, aluminium radiator,Steel turbos, 4inch with dumps a turbos back exhaust, and whilst it looked like it had a cat, the flames and noise said otherwise. Most bits by HKS. It chewed airflow meters. was actually a scarry fast car. Bugger all k’s but a hard life. An old telltale for rb26 is the paint peel on the intake. With constant high temps, it was crap paint and it peeled as shown. I shattered the oil pump and spun bearing 6. twice. I actually don’t know what fuel cut was, because even at 9k plus I never found it, and it seemed to peter out....turbos were still standard size exhaust housings and well past their efficiency by that stage. But man, what a noise. It screamed. It was angry. I loved it. I miss it.

In midnight purple
And you SOLD IT?!

Sadly, yes on all counts. I was trying to sell the 33 at the time, and I got to talking with the guy that was looking to buy it. Then, through talking he found out that I had the 34, and asked to see it. Made an offer on the spot well above what I paid for it, so I sold it. It ended up in Sydney with the number plate ‘TOMEI’ and was worked off of its face. somewhere north of 350kw at all four. Went from being absolutely bone stock, to off of it’s face nuts. It was good and a shame all at once.
Also, I sold the E46 M3 :( it left me last week. Such is life.
Nauraushaun

I think it’s a real shame. I think every R34 is worked and in the years to come the stock ones will shoot up like you wouldn’t believe. Either way it’ll hold some value.
Extra shame about the midnight purple! That shit is rare as hen’s teeth, I’d kill for any car in that color.
WHAT DO YOU HAVE LEFT MAN?!
